Health & Private Liability Insurance

Health insurance is obligatory for everyone residing in Germany, it should have high
priority obtaining one. There are two types of health insurance in Germany. "Public" or
"Private". The employer will not arrange for you, on normal cases.

In general, you have free choice amongst both equitable systems. In detail there are
certain mandatory rules to be considered.

If your salary is more than €4k++ then you need to get a private insurance instead. However I took the TK which is a public insurance on voluntary basis due to attractive expat support at www.expat.tk.de, arrangement for doctors appointment etc is included. Public insurance will not give you single bed admission or coverage outside Europe. They do, but for limited emergency cases. Just take a supplement insurance covering these services which fairly cheap.

The public insurance will cost you €700++ per month which also covers the whole family. The employer will pay 50%.

But the public insurance will not include the following supplement package :

Annual package for all travels up to 56 days days in a row (global coverage).
It covers emergency costs for….
-       Walk- away- treatments
-       In- patient- treatments ( hospital )
-       Medicines and bandages prescribed by doctors
-       Accident- related auxiliairies ( crutches, wheel- chair etc )
-       Ambulance transport to the next hospital and back
-       Medicinally indicated transport back to point of origin ( Germany )
-       Pain killing conserving dental treatments and preliminary/ provisional dental fillings
-       Provisional reparations on damaged dental prosthesis ( fillings, crowns etc )
-       Massage, fango, inhalations and functional therapy
-       Repatriation in case of death

for all trips during one year up to 56 days excluding treatments in Germany and countries of which the insured person is a permanent resident. The annual premium is around € 28,- for your family together

For single room admission, the supplement package may cost you €6-7 per person/month.

Here are my agent contacts who's quite reliable. Speaks good English. He provides free services before you decided which one to go for. Ask him for private liability insurance which covers also 3rd party claims for things like you break something at the house etc. This private liability insurance will cost you €50+ per annum.  Fairly reasonable.
